Mandra Edera is to be found in the heart of Sardinia, in the Abbasanta area, a meeting point between Montiferru, Marghine and Barigadu, where Mandra means fence, a fence that still encloses fragrances and ancient flavours. We like to imagine Mandra Edera as a refined piece of cloth, in which the threads that have been woven are the history and traditions of the area that are still alive today. We find them embroidered in a tapestry where, with the help of wooden looms, they become the men and the horses, the sun and sky of this land. Mandra Edera is a land scorched by the sun. It lies amongst rocks, water and wind, olive trees, oaks and horses, nuragic and pagan places of worship, Nuraghi and sacred wells, ceremonial and ancient healing places, where the element of water was worshipped as a goddess: S' Abba Santa. La Sartiglia di Oristano| TIMELESS EMOTION Oristano’s Sartiglia Sartiglia: that’s a special word for Oristano’s citizens specially during carnival. Maybe unknown to the foreigners, but it’s a name which recalls history, traditions and made of mystic and pagans rituals. Sartiglia was for the first time mentioned in a documents dated 1547 in which they describe it as a kind of horse festival with ability games, an amazing medieval joust in honour of imperator Carlo V. THE SECRET OF SANTA CRISTINA SACRED WELL | Mandra Edera Surroundings The Sacred Well of Santa Cristina, near Paulilatino (OR), contrary to popular belief, does not feed exclusively on rainwater. Indeed It is one of the oldest known plants for the production of drinking water by condensation (known as Luftbrunner). A unique structure of architectural and cultual value, and it also helps us to further understand the technological level reached by the Nuragic culture during the late Bronze Age. Operating principle | The walls and input staircases, during the day, are exposed to a continuous solar radiation. In the absence of wind and with a constantly colder temperature, the inside part of the well generates an air flow that blows up through the input staircases upwards, creating an atmospheric depression inside the well itself. Through the hole located in the top of the dome, the outside air will be sucked into the well. This warm, moist air condenses on the cold walls of the underground cavity thus generating the water that goes to collect in the basin located at the base. The Austrian engineer P. Elmerer reproduced to scale the physical operation process of the Sacred Well.

The Mandra Edera Country Hotel has 4 Standard double rooms, 2 Junior and 8 Garden Suites furnished with taste and simplicity according with the traditional sardinian style. We have the best of Anglo-Aranbian breed and pure Arabian horses. All of them pretty and in the best condition. All are well-trained sport horses, some of which have competed at international level. Mandra Edera is a Country Hotel located on a horse breeding farm. The riding programs we offer allow a tailor-made riding holiday suitable for all riders, from the absolute beginner to the most experienced one. We propose new and attractive products almost every year so that returning guests have new riding experiences to enjoy with us. The owner’s family have been breeding horses for generations thus, they are genuine horsemen. Horses have been here for centuries whereas the country house was only built 14 years ago. This means horses were here first, that’s what makes the difference, and people can feel it. The landscape we take the riders through is beautiful all year around. We have also a second stable directly at the seaside for rides starting their excursions from the coast.

The Park The Country Hotel is immersed in a park of age old oak trees and surrounded by fields and paddocks with horses roaming free.

The Pool The swimming pool is to be found in the east wing of the park, the most protected, shaded by age old oak trees. Next to the external pool, separated by a large window, there is the Solarium. The internal heated pool is to be found enclosed in the wellness centre with changing and treatment rooms.

STANDARD DOUBLE ROOM The Standard is the first room decorated in traditional Sardinian style made in Mandra Edera. With an area of 25-30 square meters, ideal for two people, the Standard has a spacious bedroom, with cedar wood furniture in the rural style of the sardinian tradition. The rooms have views of the vineyards and surrounding countryside and are located on the ground floor or first floor. It is quite comfortable to arrive in Sardinia, because there are a lot of low cost airlines which offer flights for cheap prices. The average time to reach the Mediterranen island is between 1,5 and 2 hours flight. There are three airports on Sardinia: Olbia in the North East of the island Alghero in the North West Cagliari in the South Country Hotel Mandra Edera is more or less located in the centre of Sardinia, the distance of all three airports is about 1 hour and 45 minutes by car. The next town to Mandra Edera is Abbasanta, which you can reach also by train. It is recommended, however, to hire a car, as they are available for low prices (booking via internet). Another possibility to reach Sardinia is by own car, taking the ferry boat. The ports of Genova or Livorno (Italy continent) are connected by ferry boat with the ports of Olbia (North-East) and Porto Torres (North West) on Sardinia. How to arrive at Mandra Edera: Take the street SS 131 (South-North from "Cagliari" in direction "Sassari" or the other way round). If you come from Olbia, take the street SS 131 East-West until you cross SS 131 South-North, see also map). From SS 131 South - North take the exit "Abbasanta - Santu Lussurgiu", then turn in direction Santu Lussurgiu, after 400 metres you will see a sign at the right side "Mandra Edera" (also brown sign "Nuraghe Aiga"). Turn right here and follow the small street with many curves. After 4 km you will arrive at Country Hotel Mandra Edera.
